Christchurch International Airport is the second largest airport in New Zealand and is fully equipped to internationals standards with IFR approach/departure aids. Canterbury Aero Club members have a unique opportunity to train at an international airport and be exposed to a busy controlled aviation environment. The experience gained while training at Christchurch airport gives CAC trained private pilots the experience and confidence to fly into any licenced airport in New Zealand.

But the Club's pilot members have the best of both worlds.

Our West Melton airfield, just six minutes flying from Christchurch, is reserved for the exclusive use of the Canterbury Aero Club, providing an area for training or flying, away from the busy commercial airport when necessary.

We also provide flying and flight training at Rangiora airfield in a more relaxed country environment.

We have three low flying and three general training areas located in close proximity and our location close to the Southern Alps provides the ideal environment for total pilot training.
